OUR PHILOSOPHY

The WHY

Our philosophy is rooted in a client-focused, balanced, and conservative approach. Our space is designed to feel like a home away from home, where you can comfortably share your goals, dreams, and victories. We are passionate, highly skilled and dedicated to providing the utmost care in every aspect of your rehabilitation and wellness journey.

As biokineticists, we prescribe scientific-based physical activity programmes to promote overall health and quality of life, maintain physical abilities and carry out final-phase physical rehabilitation. We believe in a collaborative approach and work closely with other health professionals to ensure that we cover all bases, leaving no stone unturned in promoting your overall well-being.

The Who

Gary Miller

Gary is a qualified biokineticist and sports scientist who graduated from the University of Pretoria with a BA HMS (Hons) in Sports Science and Biokinetics. In 2015, he received the prestigious BASA award for being the best biokinetics student in the country.

After gaining valuable experience in Pretoria, Gary followed his passion further and opened his practice at the end of 2021, now proudly serving the Somerset West community, his new home.

Gary enjoys spending his spare time attending weekly quizzes, going out for a run (probably training for his next marathon!), and cheering on his favourite sports teams.

Mikal Bester

Mikal grew up in a small town in the Great Karoo and ultimately followed her dream by studying Biokinetics at the University of the Free State. She graduated cum laude and was also awarded as top biokinetics student from BASA in 2019.

Guided by her quest to find the perfect pansy shell, she relocated to Plettenberg Bay for her foundational years as a biokineticist before making the move to Somerset West and joining the practice in 2025.

Outside of work, Mikal loves to spend time at the beach shell hunting and enjoys an open-water swim. Rumour has it she was also the winner of the “Miss Personality Prize” in high school!

Cheny Appelgryn

Cheny obtained her BSc Honours in Biokinetics from the University of the Western Cape in 2025 and joined the practice as an Intern Biokineticist in 2026.

She is passionate about working with people in pre and post-natal phases, pelvic floor complications and spinal rehabilitation and is guided by the concept of “exercise is medicine”.

In her free time she can often be found outdoors (going for a hike or gardening), playing with her cats, doing pilates or tucked behind a good book.
